Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. Aconites should be planted from September to November. Choose a position in dappled shade in reliably moist, well drained soil. These bulbs prefer a soil rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or compost to the soil. Space them randomly throughout the planting area at a distance of 10cm (4") apart and plant them at a depth of 5cm (2"), with the pointed end facing upwards. For natural looking drifts, gently cast them across the planting area and plant them where they land!
Aconites particularly dislike dry soil in summer so water regularly during the growing season until bulbs are fully established. When growing aconites, it is essential to allow their foliage to die back naturally. Avoid mowing areas of grass where bulbs are naturalised until their foliage has completely died back.
