A pretty selection of large bicoloured blooms with unique spurred petals, which give rise to the common name 'Granny's Bonnet'. Aquilegia caerulea 'Mrs Scott-Elliot' flowers from late spring through to midsummer above clumps of elegant, feathery blue-green leaves. The nodding flowers on slender stems are a charming addition to cottage garden borders and woodland gardens, where they attract pollinating insects. Columbine flowers are also superb for cutting for a vase indoors. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten. Grow aquilegias in sun or part shade in any fertile, moist, well drained soil.
Columbines hybridize readily. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary.
