Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Aquilegia flowers come in many shades of pink, purple, red and white, but the unusual 'Yellow Star' steals the show with its vibrant blooms. These lemon Granny's Bonnets appear in May, June and July to brighten up borders, rockeries or woodland gardens and attract pollinators. They also make superb cut flowers for those who want to bring the beauty of a cottage garden into the cottage itself. Columbines are extremely easy to grow, requiring only sunlight and rich, well drained soil. This makes the Aquilegia chrysantha 'Yellow Star' an excellent choice of hardy perennial. Height: 75cm (2'6"); Spread: 30cm (1'0").

Aquilegia plants thrive in any sunny position on well drained soil. Caution: Contact with Aquilegia sap may irritate the skin and eyes. Columbines are harmful if eaten.
In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide perennials in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour. Aquilegia seeds freely, though rarely to nuisance level, so you will never be short of new seedlings to fill gaps in borders!
