Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Aquilegia have been bred for every colour imaginable, but sometimes it’s good to go back to basics. The species Aquilegia vulgaris is just as pretty as many of its cultivars and well worth a place in the garden. Nodding, mauve-blue flowers crown its upright, slender stems creating an airy display that mingles beautifully with other early summer perennials.

A tough and dependable plant, you’ll find this Columbine to be hardy, reliable and easy to grow, Over the years it will self- seed and hybridize to produce plenty of new plants for plugging gaps about the garden. Perfect for attracting insects to wildlife areas or colonising woodland edges. Height: 90cm (36”). Spread: 45cm (18”).

1 x 1 Litre Potted Plant (63860)

Pot up aquilegia plants and grow them on in frost free conditions until large enough to plant outdoors. Grow aquilegias in sun or part shade in any fertile, moist, well drained soil.
Columbines hybridize readily. If seedlings are not wanted, deadhead faded aquilegia flowers to prevent them self seeding. Aquilegias dislike disturbance but overcrowded clumps may be lifted and divided in spring when necessary.Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
