A fantastic plant for autumn colour, Aronia x prunifolia 'Brilliant' is a medium sized deciduous shrub. In late spring and early summer, clusters of pretty white flowers are produced, followed by purple-black berries which are ready to harvest in the autumn. Commonly known as Purple Chokeberry, these fruits have a tart flavour when eaten raw but are delicious made into jams, compotes, or added to cakes and pies. As the fruits ripen in autumn, the foliage takes on incredible fiery shades of orange and red. Easy to grow, even in boggy conditions, Aronia x prunifolia 'Brilliant' is perfect as part of a mixed border and for extending the season of interest. Height: 3m (10'). Spread: 2.5m (8').

Culinary information: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Click here for more details about edible flowers.

Aronia enjoys almost any moist, well drained soil except for shallow chalky conditions. Plant Chokeberry in sun or partial shade.
Chokeberry plants require little maintenance once established. In late winter or early spring, simply cut back any damaged or misplaced shoots to maintain a healthy framework.
