Add some elegance to summer borders with the graceful, feathery plumes of our Astilbe chinensis ‘Pearl’ Collection. These bushy, hardy perennials produce attractive clumps of finely cut foliage that provides the perfect backdrop for their majestic blooms. The flowers rise upon sturdy stems which make them particularly useful for cut flower displays. A splendid choice for a damp, light shaded border, where their vibrant display will brighten the gloom. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Astilbe chinensis ‘Pearl’ Collection comprises:

  • Astilbe chinensis 'Black Pearls' - Upright feathery plumes of mauve-purple flowers contrast beautifully with its exceptionally dark green foliage.
  • Astilbe chinensis 'Hot Pearls' - A dashing display of rosy-red, feathery plumes create a bold pop of colour against its bright green leaves.

6 Bare Root Plants (3 Of Each Variety) (KB9132)

Plant astilbes in sun or dappled shade. Astilbe plants require rich fertile soil that remains permanently moist, even in the height of summer. A boggy soil next to a pond or stream is ideal. On drier soils, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or compost prior to planting and choose a shaded position.
Water regularly during hot, dry periods to prevent the soil from drying out. Divide over-crowded clumps of astilbe in spring when necessary, to increase their longevity. Apply a mulch around the base of the plant in spring to conserve moisture in the soil.
