These moisture loving plants are perfect for shady or woodland conditions, mixed borders and cottage gardens. Astrantia major ‘Florence’ is distinguished by its lavender pink flowers which are produced early in the summer and last for weeks. Makes a beautiful cut flower which lasts well in water or use them in a dried arrangement. Ideal for wildlife gardens as it is attractive to bees and butterflies. Height: 80cm (32in). Spread: 50cm (20in).

Astrantias are happiest in dappled shade (but tolerate almost full shade to full sun) in moist but well-drained, humus rich soil. Little maintenance is required – the plant can be cut back after the flowers have faded to tidy and encourage a fresh flush of leaf growth, or the seed heads left standing until winter to provide continued interest.
