Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

A handsome, award-winning deciduous fern. Athyrium otophorum var. Okanum bears pale yellow-green, glowing fronds that contrast beautifully with maroon stalks and midribs. Its light green foliage is ideal for illuminating a moist border in full shade, planted in groups as groundcover, or as single specimens contrasted with the silvery spotted foliage of Pulmonaria ‘Trevi Fountain’ or the bold, patterned leaves of Hostas. It also grows well in a container in a shady corner. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 45cm (18in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Plant Athyrium in partial shade in fertile, moist, acid or neutral, soil. Athyrium ferns prefer a soil that is rich in organic matter so add some well rotted manure or garden compost to the soil prior to planting.
Feed and water ferns regularly until they are fully established. Leave old fronds on over winter to protect the crown. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost around each plant in spring.
