A beautiful shrub for adding late interest, Callicarpa ‘Magical Snowstar’ is grown for its abundant clusters of pearl-like white berries that glisten on bare stems after leaf fall in autumn. The bitter berries are unattractive to birds and persist for a long time without going brown. The stems are superb for cutting and adding to winter vase arrangements. Callicarpa ‘Magical Snowstar’ forms a bushy, deciduous shrub with small pink flowers in the summer that are inconspicuous but great for pollinators, making it a good choice for low-maintenance wildlife gardens. Through the spring and summer, it forms a handsome green backdrop to border plantings, before putting on its valuable display of sparkling white berries at a time when little else is happening in the garden. Height: 2.5m (8.2ft). Spread: 2m (6.5ft).

Grow Callicarpa in any fertile, well drained garden soil in full sun or partial shade, although bear in mind that the autumn colour of the foliage will be most spectacular when grown in full sun.

Callicarpa require minimal pruning, you should only trim plants to fit the available space, or to remove any dead or damaged growth. This should be done during the spring.
