The Canna 'Cannova®' series has taken the horticultural market by storm! The product of many years of breeding, these versatile new hybrids are compact, early to flower, and bloom reliably outdoors in the UK. Striking and totally unique, Canna 'Cannova® Red Golden Flame' produces vivid red flowers in which each fiery petal is edged in bright yellow. The breathtaking bicolored blooms are perfectly offset by the large, deep green, tropical-looking leaves. Blooming for an exceptionally long period from July to October, this compact canna packs a real punch, creating an exotic and showy display in patio pots or dotted through borders. Height: 75cm (30in) Spread: 40cm (16").

Culinary note: Canna lily rhizomes can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to water chestnut, although they are sometimes bitter. They can also be boiled and baked, in the same way as a potato and have a similar texture and taste. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Grow Canna plants in frost free conditions until all risk of frost has passed. In spring, Canna plants can be gradually acclimatised to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in borders, beds and containers. Grow Cannas in fertile, moist, well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position.

Feed and water Canna plants freely throughout the summer. Faded Canna flowers should be deadheaded to promote more flowers. In late autumn, when the first frosts blacken the foliage, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored in barely moist peat, in frost free conditions. Rhizomes can be replanted in spring for another fabulous display.
