Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Surrounded by exotic looking canna lilies in your garden you’d be forgiven for thinking you were living in the tropics. These flamboyant plants, whilst still tender, will grow very easily during our British Summers. Canna x generalis 'Cannova Bronze' has showy bronze-hued foliage in abundance, rising above it on slender stalks, bright red flowers will appear in summer, adding to the tropical heat. The blooms will continue right through until the first frost, making this perennial plant one well worth keeping. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Culinary information: Canna lily rhizomes can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to water chestnut, although they are sometimes bitter. They can also be boiled and baked, in the same way as a potato and have a similar texture and taste. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Flowering Months
Feed and water Canna plants freely throughout the summer. Faded Canna flowers should be deadheaded to promote more flowers. In late autumn, when the first frosts blacken the foliage, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored in barely moist peat, in frost free conditions. Rhizomes can be replanted in spring for another fabulous display.
Grow Canna plants in frost free conditions until all risk of frost has passed. In spring, Canna plants can be gradually acclimatised to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in borders, beds and containers. Grow Cannas in fertile, moist, well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position.
