Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Surrounding yourself with exotic looking, tropical canna lilies in your garden has now become even easier with the introduction of Canna x generalis 'Cannova Yellow'. These showy plants will grow readily in our British climate, planted in large containers on the patio or even at the back of a summer bedding border. The large leaves unfurl during the early summer months, adding a dramatic backdrop, followed by tall spikes, atop which golden yellow flowers will appear freely right up until the first frosts. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 40cm (16").

Culinary information: Canna lily rhizomes can be eaten raw and have a taste similar to water chestnut, although they are sometimes bitter. They can also be boiled and baked, in the same way as a potato and have a similar texture and taste. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Grow Canna plants in frost free conditions until all risk of frost has passed. In spring, Canna plants can be gradually acclimatised to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in borders, beds and containers. Grow Cannas in fertile, moist, well drained soil in a sheltered, sunny position.
Feed and water Canna plants freely throughout the summer. Faded Canna flowers should be deadheaded to promote more flowers. In late autumn, when the first frosts blacken the foliage, the rhizomes should be lifted and stored in barely moist peat, in frost free conditions. Rhizomes can be replanted in spring for another fabulous display.
