Flowering Months
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, prune Calycanthus floridus in early spring as the buds begin to swell. Cut back all stems to a low permanent framework, 3 or 4 buds from the base of the plant. After pruning Carolina allspice, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant.
Caution: Calycanthus is harmful if eaten. Acclimatise Calycanthus plants to outdoor conditions for a period of 7 to 10 days prior to planting in their final positions. Grow Calycanthus in borders, in moist, fertile, well drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Choose a position in full sun. Water regularly until Carolina allspice plants are fully established.
