Description How to Grow Delivery

This Australian Pitcher Plant is a delightfully spooky specimen! The red/green pitchers squat amongst a sparse scattering of rounded leaves, looking like cute little monsters! The pitchers resemble gaping mouths with lips rimmed by teeth-like ribs whilst the pitcher lids are patterned with maroon veining. Cephalotus follicularis has two types of leaves: in spring, round and hairy non-carnivorous leaves are produced, whilst in summer, it bears carnivorous leaves that inflate into pitcher traps. This rare plant is native to just one small stretch of coast in Western Australia and is prized by collectors due to its unusual appearance and intricate detailing. It makes a unique specimen for a bright, south-facing windowsill or terrarium. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and spread: 10cm (4in).

Carnivorous plants require plenty of light. Grow in bright light, with around 6 hours of full sun per day. They require a frost-free position such as a cool conservatory, porch, or bright room indoors with a temperature of 15°C(60F) – 32°C (90F). Well-draining, nutrient-poor acidic soil with good aeration is essential. Cephalotus follicularis requires less water than other carnivorous plants and should not be left to stand in water. Keep the soil moist but not wet and be careful not to overwater. Always use rainwater or distilled water, as carnivorous plants are particularly sensitive to the chemicals contained in tap water. Carnivorous plants do not need feeding - they will catch all of the food that they need themselves.
