Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
Crocus sativus is a pretty autumn flowering species that is prized for its long orange-red stamens, better known as Saffron. This valuable spice commands a high price in the supermarkets, but there’s no reason why you can’t grow your own. Crocus sativus can be planted in pots, rockeries or free draining, gritty soil in borders, where the purple flowers will brighten up the garden from October. Simply harvest the stamens as the flowers open and lightly dry them before storing in an air-tight container for use later on. Height: 15cm (6"). Spread: 5cm (2").

Grow crocus in any well drained garden soil in sun or semi shade. Crocus bulbs should be planted in autumn, in large clumps at a depth of 10cm (4") and at a distance of 7cm (3") apart. Alternatively grow them in containers or naturalised in grass.
Allow the strap like foliage to die back naturally after flowering. Avoid mowing areas of grass where crocus are naturalised until they have completely died back.
