Perfect for dotting through cottage garden borders, the Dahlia 'Patio Choice' Mix is perfect for bringing a splash of colour to your garden this summer. Making superb cut flowers these semi-dwarf flowers are ideal for planting in your beds and containers too. With fantastic vibrant colours of pink, orange, yellow and red, the semi-double blooms will flower midsummer right through to autumn and their strong upright habit means they won't require any staking. Height: 60cm (24"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Culinary information: All dahlia flowers and tubers are edible. The flavours and textures can vary greatly depending on the soil and conditions in which they were grown. Flavours range from water chestnut through to a spicy apple or even carrot. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Plant Dahlia tubers outdoors in April after all risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny position in moist well drained soil. Prepare the soil by digging in plenty of well rotted manure or compost. Plant tubers at a depth of 15cm (6") and water well. Alternatively, start tubers into growth in pots of compost in a frost free greenhouse. Transplant them into their final positions outdoors in June.

Feed and water dahlias regularly throughout the growing season. While dahlia plants are still young, pinch out the growing tip of each stem to encourage bushier growth and masses of flowers. Deadhead faded dahlia flowers to encourage more blooms to be produced. Bedding dahlia are generally grown as annuals, however dahlia tubers may be lifted in autumn and stored over winter in trays of peat or sand, in a cool but frost free position if required. They can be potted up the following spring.
