The Scent First Series of Dianthus make superb specimens for a patio pot: modern vigour, a neat growth habit and long-flowering are paired with all the traditional charms of old-fashioned pinks, including, of course, that classic, spicy fragrance. Dianthus ‘Sugar Plum’ is a delicious, frilly confection of sugar pink overlaid with deep cherry markings, the double flowers borne on sturdy stems above a neat clump of grey-blue foliage. With diligent dead-heading it will produce blooms all summer. Perfect in containers but also useful for enlivening border edges with bright colour and scent. Height and spread: 45cm (18").

Plant Pinks outdoors in well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil that has been enriched with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost. Choose a position in full sun.

Feed and water regularly until dianthus plants are fully established. Deadhead faded dianthus flowers frequently to encourage more blooms to be produced.
