With scarlet, heart-shaped flowers, each with a distinctive red and white tear-drop, it’s no surprise that this graceful plant is known as Bleeding Heart. In April and May each year, the flowers of Dicentra spectabilis ‘Valentine’ hang in rows from arching red stems above finely cut leaves. Given moist and fertile soil and dappled shade, this lovely plant will reward you with a stunningly beautiful spring show, bringing a splash of colour to a woodland glade or a shaded corner of the patio. Height: 75cm (30"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Choose a position on any moist, rich, fertile soil in dappled or semi shade. Dicentra prefers a neutral to slightly alkaline soil.
Water regularly until fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of chipped bark or well-rotted garden compost to the base of the plant. Dicentras have particularly fragile roots and are best left undisturbed if possible. However, overcrowded clumps may be divided in late autumn or early spring if necessary.
