Grow Geums in a sunny or shaded position on any well drained soil. If plants are received in the spring, pot up Geum plants and grow them on in bright frost-free conditions until they are well grown. When all risk of frost has passed, gradually acclimatise Geum plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in their final positions. If plants are received in the autumn, place them in a cold frame or cold greenhouse to grow on and over-winter. When the weather has warmed in spring, gradually acclimatise Geum plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting them in their final positions. Water well after planting to settle the soil.
Water regularly until fully established. Dead-head faded geum flowers regularly to encourage more blooms to be produced. Remove old foliage in autumn. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant in spring. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps of Geum to maintain their vigour.
