Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
Most gardeners are familiar with the highly bred cut-flower types, but this Gladiolus boasts a natural elegance that most of its siblings have lost. Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus is a species Gladiolus with slender arching stems of cerise pink blooms . The flowers bring a bright splash of colour in late spring, associating beautifully with swaying grasses and architectural alliums. If left undisturbed they will happily naturalise as the years go by, and like other Gladiolus, the stems make a wonderful cut flower. Grow them in sunny borders on free draining soils for a reliable display year after year. Height: 90cm (35"). Spread: 10cm (4").

Grow groups of gladioli in sunny, sheltered borders on well drained soil. Gladioli require excellent drainage to prevent them from rotting. Improve heavy soils by adding plenty of well rotted manure and grit prior to planting. Plant gladiolus corms at a depth of 10cm (4”) and a distance of 15cm (6”) apart.
Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus is perfectly hardy and can be left in the ground all your round. Allow the foliage to die back naturally in autumn. Lift and divide overcrowded clumps to maintain their vigour.
