How to plant trees and shrubs

3 Plants (K70771)

When growing Hibiscus in patio containers, use soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot the Hibiscus plant at its original soil level and firm well into the new container. Water well and position in full sun. Alternatively, plant directly into sheltered, sunny borders in moist, free draining, neutral to alkaline soil.
Feed and water regularly. As plants increase in size they will require repotting into increasingly larger pots. Prune Hibiscus in late spring by shaping the plant and removing any damaged or dead stems. Hibiscus is often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that appear to have died over winter - they may just be dormant still!
