The blue Rose Mallows are always popular for their exotic coloured flowers. This one is especially pretty with lilac-blue ruffled blooms from late summer to autumn when many other plants are beginning to fade. Hibiscus syriacus 'Blue Chiffon' is a superb deciduous shrub cloaked in attractive lobed foliage. This hardy Hibiscus has a neat upright habit that is well suited to sunny mixed borders. This striking variety has been awarded an RHS AGM for its garden performance. Height: 2.5m (8'). Spread: 1.5m (5').

Culinary note: The flowers can be infused to make a mildly citrus flavoured tea. The petals can be cut and added to fruit salads too. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Grow hibiscus plants in rich fertile, reliably moist, well drained soil, and situated in full sun. When growing hibiscus plants in patio containers use a soil based compost, such as John Innes No.3.

Feed and water regularly. Prune Hibiscus in late spring by shaping the plant and removing any damaged or dead stems. Hibiscus is often one of the last shrubs in the garden to break bud, so be patient with plants that appear to have died over winter - they may just be dormant still!
