Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

No perennial border is complete without the grandeur and majesty of this hardy perennial. Hollyhocks are classic cottage garden plants, towering to the heavens, and bringing height and structure to the back of borders. Each upright flower spike is crowded with ruffled, fully double scarltet blooms. Ideal for creating a colourful backdrop for summer borders. The tall flower spikes also make dramatic cut flowers for summer bouquets.

Gradually acclimatise Hollyhocks to outdoor conditions over 7 to 10 days and transplant into sunny borders. Grow hollyhocks in a sheltered position away from strong winds. Plant in full sun, on fertile, well drained soil.
Feed and water regularly until hollyhocks are fully established. Support their tall stems with bamboo canes as the flower spikes develop. In autumn, cut back the old foliage and faded hollyhock flower stems, and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
