Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
The elegant heart shaped leaves of Hosta ‘Francee’ are deeply ribbed and edged in eye catching, jagged, cream margins. When protected from slugs, this vigorous hardy perennial will quickly form neat clumps of foliage that really light up a shady spot. In July and August this RHS AGM variety produces attractive, lavender-blue flower spikes that stand just above the foliage. Hostas make a fabulous addition to borders, woodland gardens and patio containers, producing the best colour in a shady position. Height: 50cm (20"). Spread: 75cm (30"). Supplied as a mature plant in a 2 litre pot.

Culinary information: The best part to use is the hoston, the rolled up leaf as it emerges in the spring. Cooking depends on the size of the hostons, small ones can be fried for a few minutes, going well in stir fries. Thicker ones are better boiled and used as a vegetable. When growing Hostas, choose a position in partial or dappled shade on fertile, moist, well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils. Alternatively plant Hostas in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide Hosta plants in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.
