Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
Just like its award winning cousin, Hydrangea ‘Runaway Bride’, this exciting hybrid marries the best qualities of both of its parent plants. H. scandens gives it a spreading, free-free-flowering habit, producing flower buds along the length of each stem. H. macrophylla gives it large, colour changing blooms which are pink on alkaline soils and blue in acid soil. Hydrangea 'French Bolero' is a ‘must-have’ shrub, bringing elegance and beauty to your summer borders. With a neat spreading habit, it makes a fine specimen plant for your patio pots too. Height and spread: 100cm (39").

Hydrangeas prefers a position in shade or semi-shade, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively, plant Hydrangea macrophylla in patio containers in ericaceous compost.

This variety of Hydrangea is a particularly heavy feeder, but demands less water than most macrophylla cultivars. Feed and water regularly, but avoid waterlogging the soil.

Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage.

Prune the old stems after flowering, leaving the new growth in situ, as this Hydrangea flowers on new growth unlike most others. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: All parts of hydrangea will upset the stomach if eaten. The foliage may also aggravate skin allergies.
