Hydrangea panuiculata 'Grandifolia' is a shrub that is easy to grow and a joy to behold. During August and September you can expect large panicles of cream coloured buds which open into masses of little white flowers, bees and butterflies will love them too. It's a hardy deciduous shrub that is suited to British weather. Height 3m, spread 2m.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Water regularly until young hydrangea plants are established. In autumn, apply a mulch of well rotted manure to the base of the plant taking care not to mound it up against the stem as this may cause it to rot. Leave faded hydrangea flower heads in place until new buds swell in spring. These will help protect the delicate buds from frost damage.

Prune hydrangea in spring. Reduce stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. No other pruning is necessary. However, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning and the removal of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level if necessary. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced.

Position hydrangea plants in sun or semi shade and sheltered from cold winter winds. Plant Hydrangea paniculata in borders in rich, moist, well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light gravel soils.
