Hydrangea paniculata 'Magical Matterhorn' flowers generously from mid-summer, its impressive blooms opening to a soft chartreuse before maturing to creamy-white. As autumn approaches, the petal edges are kissed with subtle tints of pink. Hydrangea paniculata 'Magical Matterhorn' maximises interest in limited spaces and is perfect for gardeners restricted to container growing.

Hydrangea paniculata offers a long season of interest and is a cinch to maintain - simply prune it back to a low framework every Spring. More drought tolerant than mophead hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla), Hydrangea paniculata makes an exemplary choice for drier, woodland-type borders and for pots or planters in shady areas around the house. Hydrangea paniculata prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any non alkaline, fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply.

Water regularly until plants are fully established.

Pruning:

Hydrangea paniculata flowers on the current season’s growth and will flower better if pruned annually. Establish a permanent framework to the desired height and every spring prune back all growth to this framework. At the same time, remove any dead or damaged growth.

After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
