Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

As pretty as a picture, this dinky hydrangea squeezes a lot of interest into a tiny space. Reaching only around 60cm high, its dwarf proportions are ideal for the smallest garden spaces, and it makes a beautifully tidy, rounded specimen for a container. A lacecap variety, Hydrangea serrata 'Pink Petticoat' offers a long season of dainty pink flowers and rich autumn colour. Throughout summer, clusters of flat pink flowers encircle tiny, airy pink blooms, turning darker pink as they mature and standing out beautifully against neat mounds of dark green leaves. In autumn, further interest is provided when the foliage turns a fiery red. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height and Spread: 60cm (24in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Hydrangea serrata prefers a sunny or semi shaded position, with shelter from cold, drying winds. Grow hydrangea plants in any rich fertile, moist soil. Improve the soil prior to planting by adding with plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost, ensuring that it is mixed in thoroughly and deeply. Alternatively plant hydrangea serrata in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
Water regularly until plants are fully established. Leave the faded hydrangea flower heads in place until the new buds swell in spring to protect the delicate buds from frost damage. Prune after flowering, reducing the stems to restrict their growth to the available space and to improve the shape of the plant. If necessary, Hydrangea paniculata will tolerate hard pruning of the oldest stems to a few buds from ground level. This will also encourage larger flower heads to be produced. After pruning hydrangeas, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost around the base of the plant. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes, harmful if eaten.
