Bay Laurel trees thrive in any fertile, well drained soil. Choose a sheltered position, protected from cold winds in sun or semi-shade. Alternatively, Bay trees may be grown in large containers of soil based compost such as John Innes No 3.
Feed and water Bay trees regularly until they are fully established. Bay trees particularly dislike competition from weeds – keep them weed free from within a 30cm radius of the base of the tree. Bay trees require little pruning. Remove any damaged or misplaced stems in late winter to maintain a healthy, well shaped plant.
