At last - a Tree Mallow for the patio! This compact, free flowering, deciduous shrub grows to only 75cm (30"). A profusion of large mallow flowers to 7.5cm (3") smother the stems with pink-tinged white petals surrounding a rosy pink eye. Fantastic in patio containers, these are hard to beat for endurance, drought resistance (once established), ease of growing and sheer flower power! Height: 75cm (30") Spread: 60cm (24").

Culinary information: Some parts of these flowers are edible. Click here for more details about edible flowers.

For patio containers, repot Lavatera plants using a well drained, soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Repot at the same soil level as they were in their original pots. Plants will need repotting into successively larger pots as they increase in size. In borders, grow Lavatera 'Barnsley Baby' in any moist well drained soil. Position in full sun. Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established Lavatera plants require only occasional attention.
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established Lavatera requires only occasional attention. Pruning Lavatera is best undertaken in spring when all risk of frost has passed and the buds begin to swell. Prune all stems hard to about 30cm above ground level. Lavatera can be slow to break bud in spring so be patient with plants that appear to have died over winter - they may just be dormant still!
