The tight flower buds of Lilac 'Beauty Of Moscow' hint at a promise of pink candyfloss but they open into highly fragrant snow white blooms that are not only large but intensely scented too. In early to mid May this Syringa shrub is smothered in showy flowers which last for weeks on end. This is a wonderful specimen plant for the garden and is great for biodiversity too as it attracts bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Height and spread: 7m (22'). Supplied in a 9cm pot.

Culinary information: Adding the fragrant flowers to cream cheese or even yoghurt for a hint of lemon flavour. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Flowering Months
Feed and water regularly throughout the growing season while young plants become established. Once established, Lilac plants require only occasional attention. Deadhead lilac flowers as they fade. Lilacs need little pruning except the occasional removal of misplaced or damaged stems in late winter or early spring.
Grow lilac in borders in moist, free draining, neutral to alkaline soil in full sun. Lilac enjoys a rich fertile soil, so dig in plenty of well rotted manure or compost prior to planting. Alternatively, plant lilac in large patio containers, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Water well after planting.
