A particularly tall variety, Lobelia x speciosa 'Vedrariensis' is ideal for adding vertical interest to damp borders, bog gardens and pondsides. Elegant spires of three-lipped, deep violet tubular blooms are produced from July to September, adding valuable late summer colour. This beautiful cardinal flower thrives on rich, reliably moist soil, either in full sun or part shade.

Hardier than Lobelia x speciosa ‘Fan Blue’, ‘Vedrariensis’ is a great choice for areas of the UK that experience very cold winters. Height: 90cm (35in). Spread: 30cm (12in).

Please note: All parts are toxic. The milky sap can irritate skin.

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Lobelia x speciosa in a sheltered position in sun or semi-shade on reliably moist, fertile soil. Lobelia speciosa copes well with boggy soils and can be planted at the edge of ponds and streams.
Cut back old lobelia foliage in autumn and apply a dry mulch of bark chips or straw to protect the crown of the plant during winter. Caution: irritant to skin and eyes.
