Grow Lychnis in a sunny or semi shaded position on fertile, well drained soil that remains reliably moist in summer.
Feed and water Lychnis regularly until they are fully established. Support their tall stems with bamboo canes or twiggy sticks as the flower spikes develop. Lychnis chalcedonica will self seed freely. Deadhead faded Lychnis flowers to prolong flowering and prevent unwanted seedlings. In autumn, cut back the old foliage and faded flower stems, and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
