Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews
Silvery buds reveal pristine white, star shaped flowers that bejewel the naked stems of Magnolia stellata weeks before the foliage appears. This elegant shrub has a particularly slow growth habit compared to many other varieties, which makes it perfectly suited to smaller gardens and containers. The Star Magnolia is deservedly popular as a classic specimen shrub for borders and woodland gardens. Height: 2.5m (8’). Spread: 4m (13’).

Culinary information: The young flowers, once separated, can be pickled and then used either on their own as a treat or in salads. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Water regularly throughout the growing season until young Magnolia plants are fully established. In spring, apply a mulch of well rotted manure or compost to the base of the plant. Magnolias require little pruning other than to maintain their shape and remove damaged stems
Choose a sunny or semi shaded position that is protected from cold winds and hard spring frosts. Magnolias prefer a moist, well drained acid to neutral soil that is high in organic matter. If you don't have acid soil, incorporate plenty of ericaceous compost into your border prior to planting. Plant bareroot Magnolias at the same depth as they were previously planted. Backfill the planting hole and water well to settle the soil.
