Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

Monarda 'Balmy Pink' is a compact, early-flowering dwarf bergamot that is ideal for smaller gardens, prairie planting and positioning towards the front of herbaceous borders. Masses of unusual-looking bright pink flowers, which are a magnet for bees, are held above a mound of fragrant foliage. This dwarf bee balm shows strong resistance to mildew and is particularly effective when planted amongst drifts of ornamental grasses. The citrus-scented leaves can be dried and used to make tea or pot pourri, while the edible flowers make a colourful and flavoursome addition to salads and desserts. They also make great cut flowers. Height: 30cm (12in). Spread: 25cm (10in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Bergamot plants dislike soils which are particularly dry or have a tendency to waterlogging. Plant them in a moist, well drained soil, adding compost or well rotted manure to amend excessively heavy clay or sandy soils. Choose a position in sun.
Feed and water regularly until they are fully established. Deadhead faded bergamot flower heads to encourage more blooms to be produced. Apply a mulch of well rotted manure around the crown of each plant in spring. Lift and divide clumps of monarda plants every 3 years in autumn to maintain vigorous, healthy growth.
