Grow this fascinating pitcher plant, Nepenthes alata, in your home and it’s bound to draw some interest. This intriguing carnivorous plant not only makes an attractive and interesting feature in your home but it doubles up as a fly catcher too! The plants are upright but have large pitcher flowers which hang down on thread-like stems. A great choice for an indoor hanging planter or conservatory pot, the pinkish colouring of the flowers provides a splash of colour beneath the green leaves. One of the easier Nepenthes types to grow, not requiring particularly difficult conditions, you can enjoy this plant in your kitchen, bathroom or any sunny windowsill. Height: 40cm (16”). Spread: 30cm (12”).

Please note: Some houseplants are toxic or harmful to pets if ingested. If you believe your pet has consumed a poisonous plant then seek veterinary attention immediately. Take a sample of the plant with you.

1 x 9cm Potted Plant (15cm Tall) (KA8349)

Grow Nepenthes in bright light, with around 6 hours of full sun per day. A bright, sunny windowsill is ideal. They require a frost free position such as a cool conservatory, porch, or bright room indoors with a temperature of 15C (60F) – 32C (90F).

Nepenthes will need moist (but not soggy) soil. This is best achieved by regular watering. Nepenthes are fairly tolerant to tap water, but it’s best to use rainwater or distilled water, as carnivorous plants are particularly sensitive to the chemicals contained in tap water. Nepenthes do not need feeding - these carnivorous plants will catch their own food in their flowers. Grow in a mixture of sphagnum moss and perlite for best results, avoid using potting soil and compost as this can harm the plants.

Pitchers can be trimmed away as they die. The growing medium should be kept just moist throughout the winter while the plant is not actively growing.
