With clusters of satiny, saucer-shaped blooms in lemon yellow from late spring throughout summer, Oenothera tetragona is an endlessly cheerful plant. This beautiful evening primrose makes a lovely addition to prairie-style or naturalistic planting schemes. Tolerant of heat and drought, it is an ideal choice for coastal gardens and sun-baked borders in front of south-facing walls. For a stunning combination, pair Oenothera tetragona with blue-flowered plants that also love well-drained soils, such as agapanthus, eryngium and lavenders. Height: 60-80cm (24-31in). Grow in light, freely draining soils in full sun.
Feed and water regularly until they are fully established. Once established they are reasonably tolerant of drought and will require little maintenance. Cut down the flowering stems when they have finished.
