In late summer and autumn the flowers of Oxalis versicolor open to reveal cupped white petals with bright raspberry margins. These delicate, spreading perennials make captivating specimens for a frost free greenhouse or conservatory. Outdoors, grow oxalis plants in containers or in sheltered rockeries and borders. In frost prone areas it is best grown as a houseplant on a bright windowsill or in a conservatory or greenhouse. Plant Oxalis corms at a depth of 3cm (1”) in well drained, rich fertile soil, or for indoor cultivation, in a loam based compost such as John Innes No.2. Position in full sun or light shade.
After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it. Oxalis bulbs require a short period of dormancy at this stage, during which time the compost should be allowed to dry out a little so that it is kept just moist. Resume feeding and watering when oxalis plants start into growth again.
