Description How to Grow More Info Delivery

A dwarf evergreen flax with strong architectural presence and all-year-round colour and interest that is perfect for smaller gardens.

Phormium cookianum ‘Liquorice and Lime’ boasts spiky, strap-like foliage, boldly striped in lime green and purple-black. In the summer, strong, erect stems bear exotic-looking tubular yellow flowers adding to its striking appearance. New Zealand Flax is low maintenance and easy to grow, providing year-round interest with its long, upright, variegated leaves. This reliable and hardy variety makes a fantastic focal point throughout the year. Use this sun-loving perennial to create a contrast in mixed borders, as a feature in gravel gardens or as part of a Mediterranean-themed design. Its tolerance to sea air and exposed sites also makes Phormium cookianum ‘Liquorice and Lime’ a great choice for coastal gardens. Height and spread: 80cm (31in).

Plant height and spread is seasonal therefore we list by pot size rather than a defined plant size. The height and spread of the plant delivered will vary depending on the season, meaning arrival images are an indication only.

Grow Phormium on fertile, well-drained soil. Choose a protected position in full sun. Phormiums are well suited to mild coastal locations and can cope in poorer soils, but do enjoy a fertile soil - so it is well worth incorporating some well-rotted manure into the soil when planting.
Feed and water regularly until fully established. Once established, Phormium need little attention, but will require some winter protection should temperatures dip much below-5C (23F). Where winters are particularly cold and wet, it may be preferable to grow Phormiums in large patio containers that can be moved undercover during the coldest months.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
