Once you see these exquisite, large 7-10cm (3-4in) fully double flower heads you will stand in astonishment at their outstanding range of bright clear colours as they stand proudly above glaucus green foliage. Easy to grow, ideal sown in drifts, adding colour and height to annual borders followed by large attractive seed heads.

Culinary note: All poppies are poisonous. However the seeds produced from Papaver somniferum and Papaver paeoniflorum can be eaten and are used for adding extra flavour, crunch and bite to breads and cakes. Sow March-May thinly just below the surface in well-cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth.

When large enough to handle, thin seedlings to 15-30cm (6-12in) apart.

Removing spent flower heads will encourage further blooming.

Caution: harmful if eaten.

Culinary note: All poppies are poisonous. However, the seeds produced by somniferum and paeoniflorum poppies only can be eaten. Typically, they are used in bakery recipes. For more details about edible flowers click here.
