Sorbus intermedia 'Brouwers'

Sorbus intermedia ‘Brouwers’ is a tough and versatile tree that tolerates challenging sites including coastal exposure, wind, pollution, and shallow chalk. Its ascending branches form a regular, pyramidal crown, clothed in lobed leaves. The foliage is dark green above with grey hairs on the underside, giving a shimmery, silvery appearance in the breeze. In May, it bears clusters of creamy-white scented flowers that are attractive to beneficial pollinators. The flowers are followed by small orange/red fruits that persist until October and are accompanied by orange/brown autumn foliage colour. Sorbus intermedia ‘Brouwers’ makes a fine specimen tree in difficult sites and a good selection for coastal gardens where choice is limited. It also works well in avenue plantings. Height: 10-15m (32-50ft). Spread: 4-8m (13-26ft).
