A truly magnificent evergreen grass – admired for its grandeur of scale and spectacular lighting effects.

Stipa gigantea forms dense clumps of tough, linear foliage. In summer, tall arching stems bear large panicles of airy, oat-like flowers that create a dazzling haze of shimmering gold when backlit by the sun. The effect is stunning and it’s worth carefully selecting a position where the plant will catch the light. The dried seedheads continue to provide interest and strong structure through to early winter. This superb grass creates a dramatic focal point in borders, adding light, movement and texture. RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 1.5-2.5m (4.9-8.2ft) Spread: 1m (3.2ft).

Grow in full sun in well-draining soil. Cut and remove dried flowerheads in spring and comb through the foliage to remove any dead leaves. Plants can be divided in late spring or early summer.
