Verbena officinalis var. grandiflora 'Bampton' is a charming perennial with a loose, informal habit. This pretty Vervain is ideal for creating a light airy feel in borders. Dark purple-green foliage forms a natural-looking clump that tones-in particularly well with other purple-leaved plants. From June onwards, the slender stems rise well above the leaves, topped with small spikes of pink flowers that continue for much of the summer. Perfect for cottage gardens, and will happily tolerate dry conditions and coastal locations once established. Height: 100cm (39"). Spread: 60cm (24").

Pot up plugs and grow them on in warm, frost free conditions until plants are well grown and all risk of frost has passed. Gradually acclimatise plants to outdoor conditions over 7-10 days before planting out in their final positions. Plant Verbena outdoors in a sheltered position in any moist, well drained soil in full sun.

Feed and water plants regularly until they are fully established. In autumn, apply a dry mulch of bark chips or straw to protect the crown of the plant throughout the winter months. Cut back the old stems when new shoots emerge at the base of the plant in spring.
