Description How to Grow More Info Delivery Reviews

English lavender is the quintessential cottage garden plant, with a multitude of uses in the garden. Whether you are edging paths or brightening up sunny borders, you'll find that this hardy shrub is always top of the plant list. Lavender is loved for its dreamy fragrance and upright spikes of purple flowers, which make it a superb choice for sensory gardens. The grey-green aromatic foliage forms a spreading mound that perfumes the air on hot, sunny days - perfect for planting in containers close to the patio! The flowers are ideal for cutting and drying, but will also attract masses of pollinating insects if left intact. Height and spread: Up to 60cm (24").

Culinary note: Some parts of these flowers are edible. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Pot up plugs into 7cm pots and grow them on until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. Plant outside in a sunny site on free draining soil. Lavender particularly dislikes wet ground during winter months so incorporate plenty of coarse grit or sharp sand when planting on heavy clay soils. When growing lavender in patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Water well and position in full sun.
Feed and water until plant is established. Once established, lavender plants are reasonably drought tolerant and will seldom require attention. Prune Lavender stems back to two buds immediately after flowering to promote bushy growth and a multitude of flowers the following year. New growth can be lightly shaped in March if necessary.

Van Meuwen strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.
