Description How to Grow More Info Delivery
This Hosta's name 'Great Expectations' alludes to the fact that like most Hostas it's a slow growing perennial plant that will reward patience with a display of thick, ridged variegated leaves that have blue/green margins and yellow fading to white centres. The leaves are naturally stiff and reasonably slug resistant. From June to July there is the added attraction of white bell shaped flower standing above the foliage. Height: 70cm (27"). Spread: 120cm (48").

Culinary information: The best part to use is the hoston, the rolled up leaf as it emerges in the spring. Cooking depends on the size of the hostons, small ones can be fried for a few minutes, going well in stir fries. Thicker ones are better boiled and used as a vegetable. When growing Hostas, choose a position in partial or dappled shade on fertile, moist, well drained soil. Add plenty of well rotted manure to improve heavy clay or light sandy soils. Alternatively plant Hostas in patio containers in soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3.
In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant. Lift and divide Hosta plants in autumn every third year to maintain their vigour.
