Lungwort is not the most attractive common name for a plant but Pulmonaria 'Sissinghurst White' makes up for this with the attractive mottled, felted leaves and dozens of pretty little white flowers that bees love through the summer. Pulmonaria will make good ground cover under trees and shrubs or in a shady corner of the garden and is very suitable for a woodland or cottage garden setting. These features make 'Sisinghurst White' a worthy ward winner of RHS Award of Garden Merit. Height: 30cm (12"). Spread: 45cm (18").

Culinary information: The leaves can be eaten raw or cooked and added to salads, or used as a potherb. The plant is an ingredient of the drink Vermouth. For more details about edible flowers click here.

Grow Pulmonaria plants in sun, dappled or full shade, on moist but not waterlogged, well-drained soil.

In autumn, remove old foliage and apply a mulch of well rotted manure or garden compost to the base of the plant.
