Lavender makes an excellent low hedge or edging plant. The nectar-rich blooms are particularly attractive to bees, and the fragrant stems are ideal for cutting or drying. This drought-tolerant plant thrives in sunny borders or containers.

Consists of 2 varieties:
Hidcote - An evergreen, aromatic semi-shrub with narrow, silver-grey leaves and leafless stems topped with deep, purple-blue tubular flowers in summer.
Munstead - Dwarf compact variety with dense mounds of fragrant evergreen, grey-green foliage bearing deep-lavender flower spikes during summer.

Supplied as plug tray plants.

Pot up plugs into 7cm pots and grow them on until large enough to plant outside in their final positions. Plant outside in a sunny site on free draining soil. Lavender particularly dislikes wet ground during winter months so incorporate plenty of coarse grit or sharp sand when planting on heavy clay soils. When growing lavender in patio containers, use a well drained soil based compost such as John Innes No. 3. Water well and position in full sun.
Feed and water until plants are established. Once established, lavender plants are reasonably drought tolerant and will seldom require attention. Prune Lavender stems back to two buds immediately after flowering to promote bushy growth and a multitude of flowers the following year. New growth can be lightly shaped in March if necessary.
